Our mission
Eat fresh.
Waste less. Know more.
The Produce Project exists to close the gap between buying fresh food and actually using it — through education, not guilt.
The problem
Food waste is a solvable crisis
Most household food waste isn't carelessness — it's a lack of information. When was this picked? How long does it last? Is it still good? We answer those questions.
1/3
of all food produced globally is wasted
8%
of global greenhouse gas emissions from food waste
$1,500
lost per household annually to thrown-out food
Our story
It started with a sad bag of kale
Like most food waste stories, ours started at the bottom of a crisper drawer. We kept buying produce with the best intentions and watching it wilt. Not because we didn't care — because we didn't know.
How long does kale actually last in the fridge? Should it be washed first? Does it store better wrapped or loose? These seem like small questions, but they're the difference between a great salad on Thursday and a composting project on Sunday.
The Produce Project is the app we wished existed: a single place where you can look up any fruit or vegetable and get real, practical information — backed by science, stripped of jargon.
What we stand for
Our four principles
Education first
We believe the best way to change behavior is to make knowledge effortless. Every produce page is a mini-guide — storage, ripeness, nutrition, seasonality.
Seasonal eating
Eating in season isn't just fresher and more affordable — it reduces the energy cost of out-of-season growing and long-haul transport.
Honest data
Storage life estimates, nutritional data, and environmental impact numbers come from peer-reviewed sources and are updated as research evolves.
No shame, just support
We've all let a bag of spinach go. This app isn't about guilt — it's about giving you the tools to do a little better, without the lecture.
